Burke County says consolidation will save $1.4 million a year in operating costs

From The Hickory Daily Record: As students in the Burke County (N.C.) school district began their summer vacations, officials were taking steps to consolidate the system's six schools into three. The district will spend about $750,000 on one-time facility improvements to accommodate the changes. The consolidation is expected to reduce annual expenses by an estimated $1.4 million.
