Houston district unveils plan to boost school security
The Houston school district has unveiled a multimillion-dollar security plan that would assign more police officers to schools, equip all buses with cameras and tracking systems, and direct counselors to focus more on preventing violent behavior. The safety initiative comes as the number of Houston students disciplined for incidents the district considers serious—such as gang violence, drug possession, aggravated assault and weapons possession—has increased nearly 150 percent since 2001.
