Transportation director in Georgia district didn't disclose felony record
The Bibb County (Ga.) school system's transportation director has resigned after officials found that he struck and killed a man in 1988 hit-and-run incident and did not disclose the felony conviction on his job application. Larry Jones was 24 at the time of the crash in Jacksonville, Fla. His car hit the rear of a man's bicycle and threw the man onto Jones' car windshield. After stopping his car, getting out and looking at the victim, Jones drove off, leaving the man fatally wounded on the roadside, according to the court file. He didn't call for help. Jones was charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident with death or injuries. In 1988, he was confined for 37 days after he pleaded no contest to leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
