Aug. 31, 2009

From The Baton Rouge Advocate: Nineteen private organizations want the state of Louisiana to let them form as many as 23 new publicly funded charter schools in fall 2010. The Louisiana Department of Education says 20 proposed schools are bricks-and-mortar traditional-style campuses, and three are cybercharter schools that would teach children online. Of the brick-and-mortar schools, two are planned for Baton Rouge, one is planned for Opelousas and another wants to start up in Vermilion Parish. The other 16 schools are based in New Orleans.
