June 22, 2012

From The Chicago Tribune: A coalition of students and community members from several cities have filed complaints with the U.S. Department of Education. The group alleges that policies that force underperforming schools to shut down discriminate against African-American and Hispanic students. Organizations in Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore are asking the federal agency to investigate school closing policies and staff overhauls of underperforming schools known as "turnarounds.”
