Woodmere Elementary School in Harvey, La., has been shuttered and stuck in limbo for more than two years, since Hurricane Katrina stripped off its roof and flooded its rooms with rainwater. Now, it will get a chance to start fresh. Federal officials have agreed to tear down the damaged structure and replace it. This decision makes Woodmere the second school in the 86-school Jefferson Parish public school system to be targeted for demolition post-Katrina. Terrytown Elementary, which also suffered from water damage and mold, was reduced to rubble last fall.
