23,000 solar panels being installed in San Diego district

Officials say installation could offset as much as $50 million in energy costs.

News release: The San Diego school system has begun installing 23,000 solar panels on rooftops and carports around the district. When completed, about 30 percent of the district's total energy usage will be offset by solar. Officials say the projects have the potential to save as much as $50 million in avoided costs to the district over the 20-year life of the system.
