Kansas City may open high-tech high school

The Kansas City (Mo.) School District and industry partners are discussing plans for a $40 million campus to train the engineers and workers needed to keep building the city. The school would blend high-tech curriculum with teamwork on projects. It would prepare students whether they aim to study engineering at a university or gain apprenticeship in a skilled trade. The school district, industry backers, and state and federal sources would pay for the construction. The first phase would open in 2009 if the school board approves and if advocates can raise the money.
