Detroit's emergency financial manager sues school board

Robert Bobb says board's appointment of a superintendent violated his authority

From The Detroit News: Robert Bobb, emergency financial manager for Detroit Public Schools, has sued the school board, asserting that the board violated his authority when it promoted Teresa Gueyser from acting to general superintendent. Bobb wants a Wayne Circuit Court judge to immediately rescind Gueyser's appointment and order the board to follow his executive orders. Bobb, appointed to a one-year term by the governor, is represented by Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox's office. After his appointment, Bobb issued an order assuming fiscal control over the district, including all personnel actions.-

AUGUST 2009...from The Detroit News: Detroit Public Schools emergency financial manager Robert Bobb says he hopes the city's mayor takes control of the struggling district and removes the elected board from power. Further expressing his dissatisfaction with the board, Bobb says he plans to sue members this week for promoting Teresa Gueyser from acting to general superintendent Aug. 13 without his approval or a national search.
