Technical research institute opens in Ann Arbor

Michigan Tech facility will house 30 scientists and their students.

Michigan Technological University has unveiled its high-tech research and development institute in Ann Arbor. Officials hope the facility will keep skilled, knowledge-based jobs and dollars in southeastern Michigan. The Michigan Tech Research Institute focuses on the development of technologies that measure and analyze both natural and man-made environments. The institute's 30 scientists and their student interns design and test sensors that can measure water quality, help eliminate traffic congestion and road safety hazards, as well as assess factors contributing to global climate change
