More than 2,000 school district employees in Sacramento County get layoff notices

Statewide, 23,225 workers receive notice that their jobs could be eliminated
March 17, 2010

From The Sacramento Bee: More than 2,000 layoff notices have found their way to Sacramento County, Calif., educators. School districts in California have until March 15 each year to issue pink slips to certificated employees--teachers, counselors and some administrators--who could lose their jobs come next school year. Statewide, 23,225 educators received pink slips, according to the California Teachers Association. Last year 28,000 received pink slips and 16,000 eventually lost their jobs. Many of the pink slips are usually rescinded by the beginning of the school year, as teachers jockey for seniority and districts find additional funding.
