Principals at Chicago magnet schools won't be allowed to handpick who is admitted

Federal grand jury has been looking at how students at some Chicago schools are selected
Nov. 5, 2010

From The Chicago Sun-Times: For a second year, principals of magnet elementary schools in Chicago will be barred from handpicking 5 percent of their students, after a committee could not agree on a way to remove clout from the process. The decision of the Blue Ribbon Committee on Magnet and Selective School Admission follows disclosures last year that a federal grand jury is investigating whether improper influence played a role in the selection of students to Chicago's elite college-prep high schools.
