New schools dedicated in Chapman, Kan.

Three campuses replace facilities destroyed by 2008 tornado

From The Abilene Reflector-Chronicle: The Chapman (Kan.) district has dedicated three new school buildings constructed to replace facilities destroyed by tornado in 2008. The Chapman Elementary School has 62,643 square feet. Chapman Middle School has 113,583 square feet that includes the district gym. Chapman High School has 128,338-square feet that includes a gym, band, music, multi-purpose room and art building. Construction on the high school art building is expected to start in March. An $8.2 million local bond issue covered part of the $68 million project. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state of Kansas provided up to 85 percent of the reimbursable costs.
