Ohio court says village can't switch school districts

Walton Hills must remain in Bedford District, state Supreme Court decides
June 18, 2010

From The Cleveland Plain Dealer: The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that the village of Walton Hills cannot withdraw the Bedford School District. For 12 years, Walton Hills has been trying to join the wealthier Cuyahoga Heights school system. The State Board of Education denied the village's request, contending the switch would be a significant financial jolt to Bedford. The Supreme Court upheld the state board's decision. About 45 of the Bedford district's estimated 3,600 children are from Walton Hills, but the village accounts for between $3.5 million and $5 million a year in residential and commercial property revenues.
