Transportation provider will continue service for 800 special-education students in Wake County, N.C.

From The Raleigh News & Observer: The largest provider of transportation to special-education students in the Wake County (N.C.) school system is backing away from a threat to shut down over a money dispute with school administrators. Zell Lucas, president of Lucas Transportation, says the company plans to continue operating through the end of this school year while talks are under way for a new contract. Lucas had threatened last to shut down service to 774 students, saying the current contract was putting him on the verge of financial collapse.

MARCH 2010...from The Raleigh News & Observer: Nearly 800 Wake County, N.C., students could be left without a ride to school next week because of a dispute about how much money is being paid to the companies that provide transportation services to special-education students. Zell Lucas, president of Lucas Transportation, says he'll have to shut down service April 8 because his contract with the school system has put him on the verge of financial collapse. If Lucas closes, it would mean 774 students who live in southern and western Wake would lose transportation to and from school.
