Madonna University's new building will be environmentally friendly.

Madonna University in Livonia, Mich., is scheduled to break ground next week on its first stand-alone structure built on campus in 40 years and the city's first "green" building. The 60,000-square-foot, $23 million structure will house science and media studies. The design includes a partial, green reflecting roof, sustainable materials such as cork and bamboo, a motion-detecting light system, storm water filtration system and waterless urinals. The architect is Smith Group.
