Group wants New York City mayor to keep control of schools Campaign will seek to extend 2002 law that put school system under mayor's authority

Close allies ofNew York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg have set up a political organization to campaign for renewal of the landmark state law giving the city's mayor control of its public schools. The move is the first salvo in the pitched battle expected to unfold between now and the end of June 2009.
