Flood concerns prompt cancellations in Louisiana school district

Assumption Parish board decides to end school year early
May 19, 2011

From The Baton Rouge Advocate: Classes next week in the Assumption Parish (La.) district have been cancelled because of concerns over potential flooding threats posed by the Mississippi River. The school board's decision came as much of the parish was preparing for possible backwater flooding from the Atchafalaya River Basin, which is receiving Mississippi River water through the now-open Morganza Spillway. Parish middle and high schools had been scheduled to administer final exams May 23 to 25. Students will not have to attend school, but teachers and administrators are required to report to work through May 26.
