Shootings decimate biology department at University of Alabama in Huntsville

Dr. Amy Bishop was taken into custody outside the Shelby Center of Science and Technology without incident about 10 minutes after the shooting. The shooting was declared an accident at the time, but the state police did not interview Amy Bishop and her mother, who witnessed the shooting, until 11 days later, and there were some discrepancies in their accounts of what happened. Bishop is accused of shooting six of her colleagues, killing three and wounding three others during a biology department faculty meeting at the University ofAlabama in Huntsville. The couple went to the range sometime in the fall at a friend's suggestion. Asked about reports that she had gone more recently, Anderson says he has been told not to comment. From The Huntsville Times: David Williams, president of University of Alabama in Huntsville, is looking into concerns that there delays in transmitting text message and e-mail alerts that a shooting had occurred on campus. Some students said e-mails and text messages alerting students of last week's shooting weren't sent until nearly an hour after a biology professor allegedly shot and killed three colleagues.
