Missouri district will lay off 45 teachers in February

Normandy (Mo.) system seeks to save $1.6 million
Jan. 29, 2009
TheNormandy (Mo.) School District says 45 classroom teachers will lose their jobs next month, part of district-wide job cuts that will slash 8 percent to 10 percent of the school system's workforce from the payroll. Citing the loss of 700 students since 2005, Superintendent Stanton Lawrence says the cuts are overdue. The district estimates the action will enable it to pare $1.6 million from its 2008-09 operating budget. To read The St. Louis Post-Dispatch article, click here.
