Former grounds worker sues Missouri district that fired him for being unable to read

A former Normandy (Mo.) School District grounds crew supervisor contends in a lawsuit that the district violated the Americans With Disabilities Act when it fired him for being illiterate. The former supervisor, Tommie Robinson, 55, argues in the suit that his job did not hinge on his ability to read, and that he "can perform the essential functions of his position as Lead Groundsman with a reasonable accommodation such as verbal, instead of written instructions. …" Robinson began working for the district as a groundskeeper in 1982.
