D.C. plans to close 3 elementary schools

Students would be relocated to improved facilities

Washington, D.C., officials have proposed closing three elementary schools in an effort to improve academic programs and reduce duplication of resources. The plan would close Birney, Draper and Webb elementary schools at the end of this academic year. Students from two of the schools will be moved to facilities now being renovated to U.S. Green Building Council LEED standards, creating more healthful environments for children.
