St. Lucie County, Fla., looks at two sites for K-8 campuses
St. Lucie County (Fla.) school officials are looking at two properties as potential sites for new K-8 schools. One is a 72-acre site in the Southbend area of town; the other is a 40-acre site known as Tiffany Woods. Since 2005, the district has sought land to keep pace with the county's rapid growth. Nearly 3,000 students enrolled in St. Lucie public schools for 2006-07, an increase of about 8.3 percent from the previous year. The district opened a high school and two K-8 schools this year and is working on six major construction projects for about $206.5 million.
