High school, middle school and 6 elementary schools fall victim to budget woes

ThePontiac (Mich.) School District will close nearly half its schools -- including one of two high schools -- by September in a move to shave a $10 million deficit and deal with declining enrollment. Before a packed meeting at the district's administration building, the board voted to close Central High School, six elementary schools, and a middle school -- eight schools in a district of some 20 schools. The district originally was set up to accommodate 20,000 students but enrollment has dwindled to about 7,000. To read The Detroit News article, click here.
