Catholic schools sue Indiana district over busing charge

Suit argues that nonpublic school students are entitled to free transportation
April 7, 2010
FromThe Indianapolis Star: A group of Catholic families is suing the Lawrence Township (Ind.) school district to challenge the district's decision to charge Catholic schools for transporting students on district buses. The suit contends that Indiana law requires public schools to transport nonpublic school students for no charge. The Lawrence Township School Board voted last year to start charging $1 per mile per student. District buses had been used to transport 122 students to two Catholic schools.
