Durham (N.C.) district seeks $194 bond package

Money would pay for two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.

The Durham (N.C.) school district is asking voters in November to approve a $194.2 million package for school improvements. The money would enable the district to build two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. The bond package also would provide $7 million to build a separate campus for the City of Medicine Academy, a small, high school-level pre-med and nursing school.

Earlier: School officials in Durham, N.C., will ask county commissioners to put a nearly $200 million bond issue on the ballot this fall. If the plan is accepted as is, almost half the $200 million would go to building three schools: elementary, middle and high. The district also would buy land for two future schools.
