Students from Love Chapel Elementary in Unicoi County are attending other campuses

From The Johnson City Press: Officials with the Unicoi County (Tenn.) School district have received an engineering report on a sinkhole that has closed Love Chapel Elementary School in Erwin, but a decision on what to do with the facility could be months away. The engineering report states that cracks and damage were observed along the exterior walkway and school building’s exterior; within the building’s interior, which included several classrooms; and in the hallway of the new wing. Engineers have recommended steps to remediate the sinkhole activity and repair the damage. Unicoi County Director of Schools Denise Brown says she wants more testing done at the school. Classes at Love Chapel were canceled last month after the sinkhole was discovered; students in grades K to 2 now are attending Unicoi County Intermediate School, and third-grade students are going to Unicoi County Middle School.
