From The Corning Leader: A 35,000-square-foot addition will be built at the Alternative School for Math and Science in Corning, N.Y. The expansion will more than double the size of the campus and provide indoor and outdoor athletic facilities and other amenities for the first time since the school opened seven years ago. The school has 120 students in sixth- through eighth- grades, has been at capacity since 2007. The addition will be built on 1.75 acres of land now owned by Corning Inc. where the St. Patrick’s church and school formerly stood. The abandoned church and school were torn down in 2008. Corning Inc. will pay all of the costs of construction, and no public funding will be used.
