Girl was injured when steel beam crashed through the ceiling of her Moscow Mills, Mo., classroom

The parents of a girl whose skull was fractured by a steel beam that crashed through her classroom ceiling has settled their lawsuit against two construction companies and the Troy (Mo.) school district. The parties declined to disclose terms of the settlement. Richard and Stacy Twellman sued on behalf of their daughter, Amie, who was injured in the accident Dec. 14, 2006, at William R. Cappel Elementary in Moscow Mills. In addition to the district and four administrators, the suit named Demien Construction Co. of Wentzville and Big Boy's Steel Erection in Hazelwood. The suit contended that the companies were told not to work in areas occupied by students and that work on the classroom's roof and ceiling caused a dangerous condition. Amie, now 12, is doing well, her parents say.
