Solar farm approved at University of Illinois

20.5-acre site will begin producing power next fall

From The Champaign News-Gazette: The University of Illinois has approved plans for a $15.5 million solar farm in on a 20.5-acre site in Champaign that has been under consideration for a new high school. The land is now used by the university's College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. The solar farm is scheduled to begin producing power by next fall. Phoenix Solar Inc. of San Ramon, Calif., will design, build and operate the farm for the first 10 years, and the UI will buy all the energy produced under, and after 10 years the university will own the solar farm.
