Stillwater Area district project is stalled as officials seek more funding
TheStillwater Area (Minn.) school district has received $1 million from the estate of a local business couple to build an early-childhood family education center. The donation from Lee and Dorothy Whitson was announced in 2002, but the donors' names were not revealed. The money has been in a trust and was given to the district after Dorothy Whitson's death in August. The district has been working with public and private partners since the $1 million gift was announced to build a center, but the project has been stalled because the current economic situation has made it difficult to arrange financing.
