Eliminating riders ineligible for free service will save $300,000

From The Charlotte Observer: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) School District has notified 1,300 students they can't ride the bus next year. The district, with almost 100,000 bus riders, re-examined its rosters as it tries to rein in spending during a tight budget year. Eliminating the extra riders will save about $300,000 from a transportation budget of roughly $65 million. Students whose rides are being revoked got transfers or reassignments to schools they wouldn't normally attend.
