Calm returns to L.A. campus after fatal stabbing of student

Relative calm has returned to one of the most troubled high schools in Los Angeles, as details emerged in the gang-related killing of a teenager by a classmate late last week. Law enforcement officials confirmed the identity of Alex Contreras, the 17-year-old senior stabbed to death Friday afternoon as classes let out at Washington Preparatory High School. Contreras and the 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of his slaying belonged to rival gangs that have made inroads into Washington Prep, authorities say.

A senior at Washington Preparatory High School in Los Angeles was fatally stabbed on campus Friday afternoon. Police say the 17-year-old victim was stabbed with a knife during a fight. They believe the attack was gang-related.
