Houston may end contract with alternative school provider

Superintendent has concerns about how students are placed in the program
Jan. 4, 2010
From The Houston Chronicle: The new superintendent of Houston schools is considering whether the district should end its $20 million annual contract with the company that has run an alternative school in the district since 1997. Superintendent Terry Grier says he began considering the change after learning that last school year some principals banished as much as 11 percent of their students to the alternative campus, while other principals sent only one or two children away. If the district does oust Community Education Partners, Grier has said he likely would start an in-house alternative program.
