From The Kansas City Star: The Kansas City (Mo.) School District has scaled back its plan to close schools, sparing three buildings that had drawn strong support to remain open. McCoy, Longan and Moore elementary schools will stay open this coming school year, in a plan unanimously approved by the board. A total of nine buildings will be closed. But that’s still just a start for a district with shrinking enrollment and plummeting revenues. Interim Superintendent Clive Coleman says eight to 10 more buildings will need to close in the next three to four years.

Interim Superintendent Clive Coleman says he has serious concerns about closing some of the 13 schools that were included in a proposal earlier this month. The district heard from supporters of some of those schools at a public hearing to air concerns about the proposal.
EARLIER...from The Kansas City Star: Kansas City (Mo.) school district administrators have unveiled a plan to close 13 schools as a shrinking district struggles to cut costs. Seven elementary schools would merge with other schools. Other closures include two eighth-grade centers that are being phased out. Two previously closed schools that were being used as temporary sites would close again. The district’s alternative K-8 program would be moved to a site not yet determined. And a training school for Montessori teachers would close.
