MIT cuts 8 sports teams

School says it needed to cut $1.5 million from budget

From The New York Times: Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge has elminated eight sports teams -- alpine skiing, competitive pistol, golf, wrestling, and men and women’s ice hockey and gymnastics. The school cited the need to trim $1.5 million from its budget. Officials say the cuts are intended to strengthen the remaining 33 squads.
