New campus library in Reno will offer the latest technology

The University of Nevada, Reno is getting ready to close the 46-year-old Getchell Library next month and open the $75.3 million state-of-the-art Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. University officials say it will be one of the most technologically advanced libraries in the country and one of about 30 that have an automatic retrieval system. It will give students more access to computers and sophisticated software, collaboration areas where they can work together on projects, and quieter study areas. Student will be able to check out equipment, including high-end video cameras and mixing and editing programs. Other high-tech touches include smart classrooms equipped with the latest computing and audio/visual systems, a digital projects lab, video-conferencing rooms, a dynamic media lab and a multimedia center.
