University of Phoenix will close 115 locations across the nation

From The Arizona Republic: The University of Phoenix will cut about 800 employees in the next year, about 5 percent of its labor force, as it shuts 115 locations nationwide, mostly learning and student-resource centers. The school says the closures will affect 25 campuses and 90 student-resource centers. The 13,000 or so students affected by the closures will be offered the chance to continue their educations online or at the remaining 112 locations. Apollo Group Inc., parent company of the for-profit higher-education institution, says the closures will save the company about $300 million in the next two years. The changes will reduce the institution's real-estate square footage by about 40 percent but, because of growing online enrollment, will affect only about 4 percent of the student population.
