Turmoil at University of South Florida Polytechnic leads 2 to resign

Samantha Lane, the campus' spokeswoman, and Maggie Mariucci, director of development, cited a toxic, stressful environment as their reason for leaving. Their resignations followed a review of the university that uncovered financial mismanagement.

From The Tampa Bay Times: Investigators conducting an ethics review are recommending that two top administrators at the University of South Florida Polytechnic be dismissed because of alleged financial mismanagement at the Lakeland campus. The two-month ethics review at USF Poly concluded that university officials misused funds. Investigators say USF Poly leaders laundered state education dollars through building rental payments to pay for unauthorized perks, such as a soda fountain in one of its Polk County business incubators; state education money also was used to pay for thousands of dollars in household appliances, including microwaves, coffee makers and vacuums. The report recommends that USF fire Alice Murray, campus regional vice chancellor for planning and facilities, and Josh Bresler, who handled the campus budget.
