Value of steroid testing in Texas high schools is questioned

$3 million-a-year program finds only 11 of 29,000 test positive

Only 11 Texas high school students showed positive for steroid use among nearly 29,000 tested during the past year, leading some supporters to suggest a downsizing of the $3 million-a-year program. Nearly all of the students testing positive for steroid use during the yearlong program participated in football or wrestling, and all were male athletes, according to results compiled after two rounds of testing.
