From The Champaign News-Gazette: An Illinois legislator is renewing efforts to keep open the 55-year-old Police Training Institute at the University of Illinois. University officials announced earlier this month that the institute, which provides training and continuing education for police officers in Illinois, would close because the university can no longer afford to subsidize its operation. State Rep. Chapin Rose says he wants to fund the institute by adding a police training surcharge on all felony and misdemeanor convictions in the state.
