High school construction ahead of schedule in Yakima, Wash.

Officials expect West Valley High to open new building next August

The construction of a newWest Valley High School in Yakima, Wash., is about six months ahead of original projections. That means that students will begin classes in the new school next August instead of moving there in January 2010. The $48 million school, encompassing 237,000 square feet, will be next door to the existing campus. When it opens, about 1,000 students in 10th through 12th grade classes will attend.
