Alabama lawmakers pass restrictions on school calendar

From The Birmingham News: A bill passed by the Alabama Legislature says the school year for Alabama public school students could not start before Aug. 20 and would have to end by May 24. Supporters of the bill say that by lengthening summer breaks, the law would boost tourism and raise state sales tax and income tax collections.
