North Carolina school will collect students' cell phones each day

Students at Fayetteville Christian School in Fayetteville, N.C., will have their cell phones confiscated during first period and held for the entire school day. Teachers have caught students texting test answers twice this year, and students sending text messages and ringing phones have created distractions in the classroom for the past four years, school officials say. About 370 students in fifth through 12th grades will be affected by the ban. The students will slide their cell phones into plastic bags marked with their names at the start of the day. The bags will be collected and stored in the office throughout the school day. Students can reclaim their phones by revisiting their first-period teachers before they leave the building.
