Will school built atop bombing range be safe?

Orange County (Fla.) district wants assurances from Army Corps of Engineers

Orange County (Fla.) school district officials say that when the Army Corps of Engineers is through clearing up the grounds of a middle school built atop a World War II bombing range, it must say it is 100 percent safe -- or face lawsuits. Without that assurance, the district is vowing to sue the corps, engineering companies, contractors, previous property owners, property-appraising companies and possibly Orlando. The corps would only say the top 12 inches of ground at Odyssey Middle School is safe. Wandell Carlton of the corps says that is the best assurance he can give for any former bombing range.
