From The Washington Post: The superintendent of the Montgomery County (Md.) district has recommended approval of the county's first public charter school. In the past, the district has resisted the opening of charters. The charter school recommendation is one of the last official acts of Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, who is retiring at the end of the month from the 144,000-student school system. The Community Montessori Public Charter School, if approved, would open in Kensington in 2012 and serve children from pre-kindergarten through third grade.
