Libraries in at least 20 Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) schools won't have trained specialists

From The Charlotte Observer: Librarians in Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) Schools say the most recent round of layoffs will leave at least 20 campuses without media specialists.

Earlier....from The Charlotte Observer: A larger than expected number of educators in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.)district have received notices that their jobs are gone for 2011-12, though district leaders hope to call some of them back. The district has sent layoff letters to 739 teachers, counselors, librarians and others. Another 338 are being notified that they've been reassigned. The layoff number is larger than the 559 outlined when the school board approved layoff guideline earlier this month because, a district spokeswoman says, the list includes more than 100 who are almost certain to be offered jobs before school opens. District officials say they had to notify teachers by May 15 to meet legal requirements.
