From The Miami Herald: The body of a man believed to be a missing electrician has been found in the rubble of a collapsed building garage at Miami Dade College’s West Campus in Doral, Fla. Authorities believe the victim is Robert Budhoo, 53. The discovery brings to four the number of construction workers trapped and killed in last week's collapse.
UPDATE from The Miami Herald: Two days before a Miami Dade College parking garage collapsed in Doral, Fla., the building was struck by a crane. William Byrne, president of Ajax Building Corp., the contractor on the project, says the crane struck a garage column in the outer portion of the building. Byrne did not say if the impact happened in the quadrant that collapsed; inspectors checked the building and crane after the incident and determined work could resume.
MORE from The Miami Herald: Because of the way the floor slabs in one section of the Miami-Dade College garage appear to have come down in the collapse earlier this week— all on one side, while remaining attached to a side wall at the other — some structural engineers and construction tradespeople say investigators will look first at construction error, as opposed to faulty design, as a likely cause. Three construction workers died in the collapse.
