Restructuring in Lansing (Mich.) district will keep all 3 high schools open

From The Lansing State Journal: A revised restructuring plan for the Lansing (Mich.) School District keeps all three high schools open by merging seventh- and eighth-graders into them. It also groups preschoolers through third-graders in a dozen buildings and grades four through six at five more. Interim Superintendent Yvonne Caamal Canul says the changes are expected to save about $2.5 million a year, but the primary goal is to boost academics. Eastern and Sexton high schools will convert to 7-12 buildings this fall. Everett will become a 7-12 building in 2014. Five schools will become 4-6 buildings: Attwood, Lewton, Mount Hope and Sheridan Road elementary schools and Pattengill Middle School.
