March 7, 2007
Citizen oversight committee had recommended a different firm to design new high school

The Brownsville (Texas) school board has voted down a motion to award the architectural bid for the district’s sixth high school. The administration had recommended awarding the bid to PBK, but the board voted 5 to 2 to reject that proposal. According to a qualification and ranking form, administration ranked PBK first among 11 bids received and Gomez Mendez Saenz second. A citizen bond oversight committee also used the qualification and ranking form to rank the bids. It ranked Gomez Mendez Saenz first and PBK second. Both have designed district facilities in the past.
